I love lifting, but I also love trying out other alternatives that challenge my fitness. Yoga felt like a perfect one to explore especially because weight lifting can leave you feeling a bit too rigid and I was looking forward to a great sweat and stretch session.

A friend brought to my attention a yoga class organized by Mental 360 that was super affordable. So last Saturday I got the chance to go to my first ever yoga class. The class started from 2 pm and lasted for about an hour. Initially, it was rather awkward as the poses were so foreign but David, our instructor was great and I was able to get me back into the groove of it and really got to enjoy class. After class, there usually is a counselor who educates us on mental health.

 

So, what is mental 360?

Mental 360 is a non-for-profit organization addressing mental health/illness among the youth in Kenya through awareness, advocacy and support systems. Yoga for mental health

 

OK… About the yoga class?

The yoga class is only KSH 200/= But you can pay more to support the noble cause.

The mats are provided so just come with comfortable nonrestrictive clothing and enjoy! The class is open to everyone. From people going through mental health problems, to ones that have people going through it or for someone who is just curious!

The classes shall be running till the end of 2018.

 

What exactly happens post class?

When you are relaxed and Zen after the class, A counselor is usually available to conduct a post class discussion for the attendees to learn about mental health. It provides a safe space for people going through challenges to share them or talk to the counselor in confidentiality. If you have someone going through mental health challenges, you’ll learn how you can help them out.
